Andrew Asa Hindman

Mr. Hindman joined Tobira in April 2011 and is President and Chief Executive Officer. He has served in various strategic and operational roles within the biopharmaceutical industry. Most recently as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development at Nodality Inc., a biotechnology company developing molecular diagnostics and personalized medicine approaches to drug development, he managed strategy and execution of collaborations with major pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Prior to joining Nodality, he was Vice President of Corporate Development at Onyx Pharmaceuticals where he led the acquisition of Proteolix, Inc. in 2009. During his 10-year tenure with Gilead Sciences, Mr. Hindman held a series of positions increasing in responsibility within corporate development, commercial operations and government affairs. Prior to Gilead, he helped establish the biotechnology investment banking franchise at J.P. Morgan. Mr. Hindman holds a Masters in Business Administration from Columbia Business School and a B.A. (Biochemistry and Economics, with High Honors) from Wesleyan University.

Eric Lefebvre, M.D.

Dr. Lefebvre joined Tobira in January 2012 as Chief Medical Officer. He brings to Tobira 25 years of pharmaceutical industry, clinical care and research experience in virology. Before joining Tobira, he was the Global Medical Affairs leader at Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a Johnson & Johnson company, where he championed the clinical development, publication and commercialization optimization plans for Prezista®, Intelence®, Edurant® and TMC435, a small-molecule protease inhibitor being evaluated as a treatment for HCV-1. Prior to his tenure at Janssen, Dr. Lefebvre was medical advisor for the HIV, HSV vaccines and hepatitis therapeutic areas at GlaxoSmithKline, Canada. His career in industry was preceded by 15 years of providing primary care at Clinique Médicale L'Actuel in Montréal, where he specialized in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of STDs (including HSV and HPV), HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. A member of the Canadian HIV Trials Network and Canadian Association for HIV Research, Dr. Lefebvre was the principal or co-investigator in multiple Phase III and IV trials focused on STDs and HIV/AIDS. He has published numerous articles and scientific guides, and is a frequent presenter at medical conferences on HIV/AIDS disease progression, antiretroviral therapy and STDs. Dr. Lefebvre received his medical degree from the University of Montréal.

David Martin, Pharm.D., M.B.A.

Dr. Martin joined Tobira in March 2009 and is Tobira’s Senior Vice President, Drug Development and Regulatory Affairs. Prior to joining the company, he was at Panacos Pharmaceuticals, where he served as Senior Vice President, Drug Development and Regulatory Affairs on the team responsible for the pre-clinical and early clinical development of bevirimat, a first-in-class maturation inhibitor. Prior to Panacos, Dr. Martin held positions in Clinical Pharmacology at Bristol-Myers Squibb (formerly DuPont Pharmaceuticals) and SmithKline Beecham. In addition to his extensive clinical pharmacology experience, Dr. Martin was the Assistant Director for Virology Clinical Development at PharmaResearch Corporation. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Southern California and his Masters of Business Administration in Pharmaceutical Marketing from St. Joseph’s University.

Robert Jacks, M.B.A.

Mr. Jacks joined Tobira in August 2009 and is Tobira’s Senior Vice President, Corporate Development. He has particular expertise in business development, marketing, project management and finance. Prior to beginning his work with Tobira in 2009, Mr. Jacks was Managing Director at the private equity firm Paramount BioSciences where he identified exits, partnerships and non-dilutive sources of capital for the firm’s portfolio of 16 private biotechnology companies. Previously, Mr. Jacks held leadership positions at Pfizer in Corporate Finance, Global Marketing and Business Development. At Pfizer Mr. Jacks led the Licensing Leadership Teams for Oncology, Infectious Diseases and Ophthalmology and was involved with multiple transactions including Pfizer’s acquisitions of PowderMed and Serenex. Mr. Jacks' work with ACT Biotech, Inc., a venture-financed Bayer spin-out, as Vice President, Head of Corporate Development, has included responsibility for partnering strategy and execution. For Invida Pharmaceuticals, an Asia- focused specialty pharmaceutical company, as Business Development Lead, North America, Mr. Jacks has identified and closed multiple in-licensing deals. Mr. Jacks earned his Bachelors in Civil Engineering from Duke University, his Masters in Civil Engineering from Stanford University, and his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.

Kathleen A. McGowan, M.B.A.

Ms. McGowan joined Tobira in July 2008. In her role as Vice President, Finance, Ms. McGowan brings more than 28 years of financial experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. She was formerly Director, Finance & Controller (Chief Accounting Officer) for Discovery Laboratories, Inc., a publicly-held biotech company. From 2000-2004, she served as Director of Financial Analysis at Claneil Enterprises, Inc., a private equity investment firm. Previously, Ms. McGowan served as Financial Controller at The Liposome Company, Inc., a publicly-held biotech company acquired by Elan Corporation,plc., and was Controller at Nelson Communications. From 1983 to 1995, Ms. McGowan held various financial management positions with Johnson & Johnson, primarily at Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical and Johnson & Johnson Corporate. Ms. McGowan received her B.S. in Finance and Accounting from Drexel University and holds an M.B.A. in Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Richard Ogden, Ph.D.

Dr. Ogden joined Tobira in May 2007 and is Tobira’s Chief Scientific Officer Consultant. Prior to working with Tobira, he served as Senior Director of Scientific Affairs, HIV, US Medical at Pfizer Inc. Dr. Ogden was Senior Director of Scientific Development and a founding scientist at Agouron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Richard holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Cambridge University in England. Dr. Ogden served as scientific liaison for the Agouron/Pfizer commercial and corporate organizations following the merger with Pfizer, with principal responsibilities including medical education, including CME certified presentations, within the HIV/AIDS clinical and patient communities, and in the evaluation of proposals for post-marketing clinical research in theHIV/AIDS area. He also supported the pre-marketing activities for many clinical agents in the HIV/AIDS and oncology therapeutic areas. With Pfizer, he had an additional opportunity to work with the Pfizer Foundation in its support of the Academic Alliance and its efforts in Uganda, and with Corporate Philanthropy, in its support of the World Economic Forum and the Global Business Council.

Sean Dalziel, Ph.D.

Sean M. Dalziel, Ph.D. joined Tobira in August 2011 as Vice President, Pharmaceutical Development. Dr. Dalziel brings to Tobira more than 15 years of global experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical industries where he has gained valuable experience in Chemistry Manufacturing and Controls (CMC), strategic planning and cGMP operations for small- and large-molecule biopharmaceutical development. Prior to joining Tobira, Dr. Dalziel was the first CMC hire at Onyx Pharmaceuticals, where he was the company representative to the FDA and other global health authorities on CMC sections for all pipeline programs, and conducted CMC due diligence in support of business development activities. He also held senior positions at Theravance, Inc., where he was the department head of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and at DuPont, where he was involved in the creation of a drug delivery systems business unit. Dr. Dalziel received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Queensland, Australia, and an MBA from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.

Helen Jenkins

Ms. Jenkins joined Tobira in August 2011 as Senior Vice President, Program Leadership. She brings to Tobira more than 25 years of drug development experience, most recently at Nuon Therapeutics, Inc., and Saegis Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where, as a corporate officer, she was responsible for development operations, strategic planning and portfolio management. Prior to Nuon and Saegis, Ms. Jenkins was Senior Director, Product Development/ Regulatory Affairs, at Valentis, Inc., where she served as primary liaison with pharmaceutical partners and managed two preclinical gene therapy candidates through IND. Ms. Jenkins also led preclinical programs through successful IND filings during her tenures at Glycomed Inc. and Genentech, Inc. She has a Masters of Arts in cellular and molecular biology from San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA.

Martine Kraus, Ph.D.

Dr. Kraus joined Tobira in January 2012 as Vice President, Regulatory Affairs. She has more than 15 years of regulatory affairs experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including the submission of Investigational New Drug applications; submission and approval of New Drug Applications for new chemical entities and fixed-dose combination products; interactions with health authorities in the U.S., Europe, Canada, Australia and other countries; completion of post-marketing commitments and regulatory compliance in the areas of labeling, advertising and promotion. Dr. Kraus spent more than 10 years at Gilead Sciences, where she oversaw the regulatory approval and post-approval management of multiple products for the treatment of HIV and HBV including Atripla®, Truvada®, Emtriva®, Viread® and Hepsera®, as well as the submission of several investigational product applications for HIV and HCV. Most recently, she oversaw Gilead's Regulatory Affairs labeling and promotional compliance functions. Prior to joining Gilead, Dr. Kraus was Manager of Regulatory Affairs for ALZA Corporation, where she participated in the U.S. and E.U. registration activities for Testoderm® TTS and Ditropan XL®. In addition to her industry experience, Dr. Kraus has served as a policy analyst for the European Parliament Committee on Research, Technological Development & Energy; the California Policy Seminar; and the Bay Area Economic Forum, advising each of these bodies on the regulation and competitiveness of the European and U.S. biopharmaceutical industries. Dr. Kraus received her doctorate in Economic Geography from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a member of the Drug Information Association and the Food and Drug Law Institute.
